Even though “Earth Day” smacks of some nouveau-hippy’s lightbulb moment, it was actually founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin back in 1969, as a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. 

Some argue that Earth Day celebrations have outlived their usefulness, but it has become fairly evident that climate change is real, and its effects on the planet are widespread and devastating. The time to do something about climate change is now. So Earth Day should serve as a means for us to learn new or different ways on how to reduce our impact on the environment.
